What is Champagne Carbon?
Alexandre Mea created Champagne Carbon in 2011. He is the fifth generation of the Devavry family, which set up its winegrowing business in Champillon in 1920. In an interview with Luxurious Magazine, he describes spending more than four years developing a way to apply carbon fibre over a glass bottle.
According to that interview, each bottle is handcrafted in Reims through 37 or more steps over about eight days, with three layers of carbon fibre and two layers of varnish. The wrap is more than decoration, because it also protects the wine from light.
Why is it linked with Bugatti and Formula 1?
The motor racing connection came from people in the automotive world who were drawn to the bottle. Champagne Carbon was the Formula 1 Champagne sponsor from 2017 to 2019, and it has created special bottles for Bugatti, including the ƎB.01, ƎB.02 and ƎB.03 series.
