The 1988 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a mature Saint-Julien wine with aromas of blackcurrant, dried fruits, leather, cedar, and tobacco. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with soft, well-integrated tannins and fresh acidity, showing flavours of cassis, earthy notes, spice, and a hint of mocha. The finish is smooth, elegant, and slightly savoury with aged complexity.

The 1988 Château Mouton Rothschild is a structured and classic Pauillac with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, and tobacco. With age, it develops layers of leather, earthy spice, cigar box, and subtle truffle notes. On the palate, it is firm yet elegant, with refined but still present tannins, bright acidity, and concentrated flavours of cassis, dark plum, and savoury oak. The finish is long, powerful, and slightly mineral, showing both depth and refinement in a more traditional, reserved style compared to more opulent vintages.
